Performing a Geiger Search

How to Select and Search for a SKU using Geiger Search

The Geiger Search functionality allows the user to scan and search for a SKU using the RFID handheld reader. This function is useful for locating SKU stock on hand that has been misplaced or set in the wrong location and should allow users to quickly locate their stock.

Geiger Search requires the usage of an RFID reader to locate stock and so is only effective on RFID handheld devices. This function will not work on standard Android devices running the Loca.fi Retail application.

Selecting a SKU to Search

  1. Open the Ramp Retail App and log in.

  2. Tap on the Stock Management tile followed by the Geiger Search tile.

  3. Type in the SKU Name or SKU number that you wish to search for and click the Search icon. Select the SKU from the search results by tapping on the box.

Geiger Searching for the SKU

  1. Upon selecting a SKU, the Geiger Search detail page will appear with the selected SKU name shown and a strength meter displayed directly below.

  2. To start the search for the SKU, quickly tap the trigger once. The RFID handheld will play a starting reading tone and the green reading indicator will appear at the bottom of the screen.

  3. As you approach the SKU, the search percentage will increase as a visual indicator on the distance between you and the SKU. An audible beep will be heard and the frequency of the beep will increase as you move towards the SKU.

  4. The following table will give you a rough indication of distance based on search percentage and audio cues.

Search Percentage Audio Cue Approximate Distance
    0.0% No Audio SKU > 10m
    0.0% Single Beep 5m > SKU > 10m
    0.0% - 25% 2s Interval Beep 2.5m > SKU > 5m
    25% - 50% 1s Interval Beep 1m > SKU > 2.5m
    50% - 75% 0.5s Interval Beep 0.5m > SKU > 1m
    75% - 100% 0.1s Interval Beep SKU < 0.5m
  5. Once you have located the SKU, tap the trigger quickly to stop searching. The RFID handheld will play a stopping reading tone and the green reading indicator will disappear.
