How to Change Printer Thermal Ribbon for SATO CLNX Printer

This article demonstrates how to change the ribbon in your Sato RFID printer

SATO CLNX RFID printers use a thermal transfer ribbon to print text, barcodes, and RFID data onto labels and tags. Over time, the ribbon will be consumed and must be replaced to ensure consistent print quality and reliable RFID encoding.

This guide walks through the process of removing a used ribbon and installing a new one on a SATO CLNX printer. Following these steps will help prevent print errors, ribbon wrinkles, and damage to the print head, ensuring the printer continues to operate correctly.

Prerequisites

  • SATO CLNX RFID Printer

  • Replacement roll of thermal ribbon

Additional ribbon can be purchased from local suppliers such as Peacock Bros. For information on which size ribbon is suitable for your printer, email: support@ramp.com.au

  2. Push the head lock towards the rear (2)
  3. Press the tab (3) on the tip of the ribbon rewind spindle to pull it out.
  4. Pull to remove the used ribbon from the ribbon rewind spindle.
  5. Push the ribbon rewind spindle (4) all the way in.

  7. Load the fresh ribbon (5) onto the ribbon supply spindle (6). The matte face of the ribbon should be facing the bottom of the printer.
