How to Select and Search for a SKU or Unique Items using Geiger Search
The Geiger Search functionality allows the user to scan and search for a SKU or a Unique Item using the RFID handheld reader. This function is useful for locating SKU stock on hand that has been misplaced or set in the wrong location and should allow users to quickly locate their stock.
Geiger Search requires the usage of an RFID reader to locate stock and so is only effective on RFID handheld devices. This function will not work on standard Android devices running the Loca.fi Retail application.
Feature Overview
The Ramp Retail App supports two Geiger modes:
- Geiger Search for SKU
- Geiger Search for Unique Items.
Geiger Search for SKU
Geiger Search for SKU allows you to track a single SKU at a time. Once selected, the reader guides you towards any item of that SKU. This mode is fast and simple when you need to recover stock or confirm on-hand availability. However, this mode will display the proximity of any item of that SKU group.
Best for:
- Quickly locating a SKU when any unit will do
- Recovering misplaced stock
- Simple stock validation tasks
Geiger Search for Unique Items
Geiger Search for Unique Items allows you to locate stock with more precision. This mode builds upon the SKU search by scanning all nearby tags then displaying the proximity of all items of the selected SKU group. These items are listed from strongest (closer) to weakest (further) signal strength, allowing you to locate individual items.
You can also toggle items to temporarily move them to the bottom of the list. This makes it easier to track multiple items of the same SKU, ignore items you've already found or focus on locating a specific missing unit.
Best for:
- Locating multiple items of the same SKU
- Checking off stock systematically
