How to create and manage import templates for printing from a file.
Import templates allow the user to customise the way Ramp Print will import data from a file. This can be especially useful when importing from different 3rd party stock managers that use different formatting for exports. Import templates map the columns and data of the file to the storing variables used in Ramp Print, creating a more seamless method of importing 3rd party files.- Open the Ramp Print application and log in on the device that is connected to the RFID Printer.
- Navigate to the Settings Menu located in the top right of the screen.
- Navigate to the CSV Import Mapping menu.
- If you would like to edit or remove a previous template, click Edit Template or Delete Template. If you are looking to make a new template, click Add Import Template.
- Understanding Mapping Import Templates.
- When choosing the Column Mapping Type, you can opt for Column Index, which uses the column's index number for reference, or Column Name, which uses the header of the column (found in the first row of the file) for reference in the mapped column name field.
- Selecting the Printing Type (Template for printing field) provides two options: Direct from file allows for the direct printing of data found in the file for each tag, while Sku tags from file utilizes the SKUs in the file to search in the Ramp database and print the corresponding tags.
- Checking Passthrough all fields will make each Mapping Column set to mapping for Passthrough when added.
- Mapping Column Name references the name or index of the column in the file you are importing.
- The Mapping For column is the method of mapping and there are three options:
- Using the Passthrough method directly transfers the data from the referenced column in the file to the Lookup Property, where Ramp Print stores this information. This method is widely used for mapping data.
- The Lookup function will search for the value in the file and match it with the corresponding data in the Ramp Database. This method is typically used in specific scenarios, such as searching for SKU numbers, barcode numbers, or product names to extract the relevant information for each item.
- The Quantity option will automatically utilize the total number of items in that column and input it into the Lookup Property.
- The Lookup Property is where Ramp stores the value, and it is crucial to match it exactly with how Ramp refers to that value in the tag template to be used. For instance, if you are storing an SKU number, the value must be 'SKU Number' and not variations like 'Sku number' or 'SKU_Number'.
- Enter in the mapping of columns for the file format you are using to import and click Save Import Template to save the template.
- Once saved, the template can be edited as shown in step 4 and can be used when printing from a file, for more information please visit the Printing From a File guide.
