Using the Template Designer

How to design and create tag templates

The Template Designer allows the user to create and design custom tag templates to be printed later. These templates can be customised to be dynamic, adjusting to each individual tag number and barcode. Templates can be saved and stored to enable the user to print multiple different tag designs from the individual printer and device.

Ensure your printer is ready to print before using the template designer. See How to Setup your Printer and Installing the RFID Printer on how to get your printer ready to print before trying to print.

Where to access the template Designer

  1. Open the Ramp Print application and log in on the device that is connected to the RFID Printer.

2. Navigate to the Template Designer located in the top right of the screen.

3. The Template Designer page should appear.

Understanding the Template Designer

Menu Buttons
  1. Load Button - The load button allows the user to load and edit previously saved template designs. Ensure to only load files with the '.lfpt' extension.
  2.  Save Button - The save button allows the user to save the current template design, click For Sato in the popup. When saving, type the name of the template and include the extension '.lfpt' at the end of the title to enable it to be used later in the template designer.
  3. Width & Height of the tag - Enter the dimensions of the tag to be used with this template. This will change the dimensions of the tag template space.
  4. Resolution of the Printer - Enter the resolution of the printer that is connected to the device and will be used to print the tags being designed. This depends on the printer and is usually 203. Contact Ramp Support if there is any confusion or uncertainty.
  5. X & Y Offsets - The offsets in the horizontal and vertical directions if the design isn't being printed on the tag properly.
  6. Unit of Measurement - Allows the user to swap between millimeters and inches.
  7. Reset Template Button - Resets the design space and removes all objects added in template.

Page Options

 1. Tools

Tools are the objects that you use to design your template. To use a tool, click on the tool button and then click on the design space to add that object to the template. This object can be moved around by dragging and can

  1. RFID Tool - The RFID Tool can be used to enable rfid on the template, this allows for data to be entered and stored to the RFID chip in the tag. Without this object RFID will not work, ensure you use this tool. The data stored on the tag can be dynamically changed depending on the product by using the properties tab.
  2. Image Tool - The Image Tool allows the user to add an image in black and white to the tag template. The image size cannot be edited in the Template Designer and must be resized before importing it, for assistance please read this article.
  3. QR Code Tool - The QR Code Tool allows the user to add a dynamic QR Code to the template. This QR Code can store many different fields of data that can be populated by the product your printing for by using the properties tab.
  4. Barcode Tool -  The Barcode tool allows the user to add a dynamic Barcode to the template. This Barcode can store many different fields of data that can be populated by the product your printing for by using the properties tab. The barcode can be resized vertically by dragging the top or bottom of the barcode.
  5. Rectangle Tool - The Rectangle Tool allows the user to add a black rectangle to the design. This rectangle can be moved by dragging it and can be resized by dragging the corners  or sides of the rectangle.
  6. Text Tool -  The text tool allows the user to add text to the design space. This text can be dynamically changed depending on the  product your printing on by using the properties tab.

2. Outline

The outline tab allows the user to look at all the objects in the design space, select them to edit its properties and delete them. To delete them, click the red x next to the object you want to delete. To select an object to edit click on it.

3. Properties

The properties tab allows the user to edit the individual properties of each object in the design space. These properties can range from the dimensions and location of the object to making the data of that object dynamic. Using the outline tab or by clicking on the object in the design space you can select the object that you would like to edit.

Notable Keys:

1. Field Name - The Field Name refers to the name of the object that will be displayed in the outline tab, this is only for referencing purposes and does not change the data displayed or stored in the object.

2. Field value - The Field Value refers to the data stored in the object, for example, if the object is text, it will be the text printed on the tag. If the object is dynamic, this value will be the default value in the case that the dynamic value is missing or broken.

3. Dynamic Field - The Dynamic Field option allows for the dynamic adjustment of the object's value based on the product data being printed. This data can originate from a purchase order, printing file, or manual entry into the Ramp Print App. By selecting the Dynamic Field option, you can enter a property Name and choose an option to specify the product data property to be inserted into this field. For instance, if you wish to display the product name in a text field, select the corresponding property containing the product name. Similarly, if you want to store the barcode number in a barcode field, choose Barcode Number in the Property Name field.

3. X & Y - These Fields represent the objects location on the design space or the tag, they refer to the left and top edges of the object and 0, 0 is the top left corner.
